My button clubs...

Today because its raining and its dark we didnt feel like doing much work in the office so instead we had a planning day to try and decide which shows to go to next year and what projects need to be designed and stitched. My button club has been very popular, thanks to you. The first was My Garden which as I look at it feels like its my favourite but then when I look at Christmas Fun...its my favourite! Anyhow if you missed out on joining the club the pattern is in my book Country Cottage Quilting and we have button packs available too.

Of course the book has lots of other nice projects to make as well as My Garden wall quilt.

Next came the Christmas Fun button club which was a bit more difficult due to the tiny star blocks, this challenged alot of ladies and I promise that Fernhill, this years button club is simpler :)

Now for the fun part of our 'planning day', we thought it might be nice to invite you all to join the planning and help decide what the theme of next years club could be. Emma had cleverly found and customized a voting widget which is located at the top right of the blog. Please help me decide which theme to work on for the next button club by voting for your favourite. Emma and I had such a exhusting but wonderful day when we were stylists helping the photographer, Emma made these great gingerbread men cookies as props and I have to say that after they had done their job we ate them, they tasted delicious!

Well back to my stitching, I know, I have to rest my arm for three more weeks but.....having been a good girl for a week I really am getting bored. The stitching for the LAPC club is almost done and I am busy writing the pattern,members should see the pdf pattern in their inboxes from me by the end of the week. New buttons...

Hi, Emma here... Lynette has given me the task of creating some new house themed button packs using some of her drawings.

I have been looking though all of our samples to find some inspiration... I have found some lovey topiary trees on The Peacock Manor Wall-hanging which was our March project for LAPC and the very sweet Our Home Pillow.

I just love the shape of these trees...they have made very sweet buttons and I can't wait to see what Lynette uses them on.

I also happened to find one of the projects from Lynette's Rainbow Cottage Book... I thought the trees beside the hand painted cottage button would be perfect next to the new Country House button.

Simply Vintage...

This gorgeous magazine arrived in my letterbox today all the way from France, yes I have a sweet purse pattern in 'Simply Vintage'. This gorgeous relatively new magazine which sadly for me as I dont read French is all in French, it is filled with lots of wonderful projects and has great articles to read.

Just look at how beautiful the photography is and I adore the little chair made form twigs that my purse is perched on! The little puppy button is brand new in our colelction of handpainted buttons, its reminds me of when Hugo had just joined our family which is a little over 5 years ago. 

For those of you who dont read French or who cant buy the magazine, you have the option of buying the pattern from me as a pdf pattern here. 

Of course you will want the button too! Puppy Button and perhaps the swivel rings??

PS. Thank you for all the well wishes in regard to my injured arm, time will tell if rest is going to help with recovery.

Garden Gnome and quilt shoppe...

I absolutely love it when you send me pictures of projects that you made from one of my patterns. Shirley opps I mean Lesley  from the UK attended one of my workshops and decided that she didnt want another needlecase so she has made a pillow instead and I have to say its worked out really nicely....I love it. 

Lesley has done the strips of fabrics for the background which are just as effective on the pillow as they are on my needlecase.

We still have a few Garden Gnome kits available if your interested in making one, the kits come with all the fabrics, threads, handpainted McGnome button and pattern to make the needlecase.

Lesley has also completed the Quilt Shoppe pillow and I absolutely love it with the green Secret Garden fabrics, it looks quite different to mine.

Here is mine, I used the mauve fabric from Secret Garden fabric collection.

I am stitching....

...working hard on the last project of the year for the LAPC .

 I am slow because I have injured my right arm. Xrays and ultra sound tests this week have revealed what I guessed, carrying heavy suitcases have damaged my bicep muscle where it inserts into...something or somewhere in my inner elbow.....its painful and frustrating, the doctor has suggested 4 weeks of rest may be the cure although I am not sure that I am very good at resting! The alternative is an injection of something into the muscle....which sounds painful and I am a baby about such things...so back to my heat pack and the sofa I go! 

For this gorgeous project I am combining wool with fabrics from my Hollyhock Cottage fabric collection and enjoying the texture of the yarn dye that I love to use as a stitchery background. Emma has been busy cutting the large daisy buttons that I used on the pretty Secret Garden pincushions for me to use on this new project.

 
You can buy a pattern for the garden pincushions that includes both the birdhouse and the beehive design and two of the buttons or we have put together some kits which include the pattern and 2 buttons which if you add some toy fill will make two pincushions.

After many requests for these large daisy buttons to be sold separately from the pincushion patterns we have finally got around to putting them into packs of 6 so you can make pincushions for your friends or enjoy using them on some other project. 

Amazing news...

When our eldest couple presented us with this card a few months ago...our hearts lept.....

It took me back to when I brought the lovely man who gave me the card home as a baby, the man who is now old enough to be starting his own family....just look how sweet he was the day he was born..

We are so excited and cant wait for September to come...meanwhile we are enjoying sharing decorating the babies room, discussing which type of nappies would be best and the myriad of other exciting baby things which need to be prepared for.....

This very special reason is why I am not coming to Europe in September this year as I cannot imagine being on the other side of the world and risk missing such an important event in our families life.

my furry inspiration...

Fatcat hopped into this shoe box the moment Tom took his new shoes out.....and as you can see from his face he is not getting out just so Tom can put his shoes back in! 

This is often where I get my inspiration from. Seeing one of the cats in a box was what inspired my drawing of Fatcat, Felix and scruffy the dog together in a box with wheels on this stitchery design. 

The finished design was on the front pocket of the Three Amigos bag.

Hugo is my constant inspiration, always by my side and always willing to lend a helping mouth....after all quilts taste so delicious, this is Crazy Christmas block of the month.

Here is helpful Hugo in Block 3 from Stitched By Me bringing me flowers....I am sure if they had been sausages he would have eaten them all by now!

The last few days we have been busy painting some furniture at the studio and Hugo has alot of paint on his ears and his tail! Opps.....I will show you what we have been painting soon...meanwhile I had better get back to my stitching...

Quilt Shoppe Pillow

One of the workshops I taught when I was in the UK  was the Quilt Shoppe Pillow and its so exciting for me when a student sends a picture of thier completed project from a class. Jean sent me this picture, she is new to embrodiery and patchwork and as you can see she has done an excellent job.

Light spectacular...

Vince and I went to Sydney for the AQM (Australian Quilt Market) on the weekend, this is a wonderful show where all the distribitors for patchworkand quilting related products set up a booth to show off their goodies. This is a wonderful opportunity for store owners to see everything thats new plus all the old favourites in one place at one time. So, if you missed out this time then mark your diary now-November when the next one is held in Melbourne.

This weekend the show was at a new location right in the heart of the city which was fun.

Here is a small section of my display, you can see the 'Bluebird Cottage' quilt which is made using fabric from my new Hollyhock Cottage Collection and you can see the corner of 'Wonky Webs' which is the free to download quilt pattern and its using fabrics from my Happy Halloween Collection.

It was nice to see a cute little display by another Lecien designer Monica Solorio-Snow, Monica writes the best blog I know so why not visit her. Her latest fabric collection is called Winterkist.

Vince and I snuck out for lunch....well OK we went shopping and ended up in the Max Brenner chocolate shop where we gorged ourselves on Belgian waffles drenched in chocolate with some sliced strawberries and bananas!! 

One of the other highlights of being in the heart of a big city is that we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy (from under an umbrella) the amazing Vivid Sydney light show where some of the buildings at Darling Harbour had incredibly clever light shows on them.

There were lights that changed colour and patterns that were done to music on some of the main buildings, we could have watched for hours.

These flowers were under an old brick bridge, first the vine appeared and then the roses followed by the gerberas....so beautiful.....then it all faded and started again.

I loved these fishy covered rickshaws. 

We had a busy but nice weekend, hope you did too
