Quilt progress from across the waters...

My friend Kay who lives in the US always makes the sample quilt that goes with the free downloadable pattern for my new fabric collections. I feel very lucky to have such a good friend, today she sent me some pictures of work in progress on the quilt that goes with my Christmas 2012 collection which is called 'Christmas Fun'. The quilt pattern is called Santas Sleigh.

Photo copy

As you can see the fabrics are gorgoeus colours and the patterns are mostly small prints with one fabulous feature print....

The pattern is not loaded ready for you to download yet as its a bit too soon but if you want to take a peek at what the finished quilt looks like visit Lecien USA's website here. Be patient and wait for the pictures on the home page to change for not only a peek at my christmas quilt but also the halloween one.....ooohhh sppoooooky.....

Tea party...

This afternoon I took my mum and Aunty Florence to the book launch of Loani Prior's new book 'How Tea Cosies Changed The World' which was hosted by Annies Books on Peregian. This is Loani's third book on knitted tea cosies, each book is filled with inspirationally creative tea cosies with great easy to follow instructions.

After a lovely talk by Loani, she sat to sign copies of her new book, Aunty stood in line to get her copy personalised.

We were invited to bring along tea cosies from our past, here you can see Mum and Florence proudly displaying a tea cosy that Gran knitted (approx 40 years ago) and a tea cosy Florence knitted (approx. 25 years ago) and a new cosy by Florence that has dimensional flowers all over it which she gave to me. The house tea cosy was knitted by a friend and given to mum almost 20 years ago.

The presentation was followed by lovely sandwiches, biscuits, cake and chocolate covered strawberries....yummy.

I hope you did something nice today x If your interested in getting a copy of the tea cosy book(s) then they are available here or if you are in Australia it might be nice to order it from our hostess for the afternoon, Annie, dont forget to tell her I sent you :)

We have been so busy preparing fabric bundles, kits and patterns for my booth at the show 'Pour L'Amour du Fil' in Nantes, France next month....I just love the colours in these bundles of 'Secret Garden'. The bundles come in fat eigth size (10" x 22") or angel delight size (10" x 11").

If you visit me early you may manage to get yourself one of the last few bundles of 'Scandinavian Christmas' fabrics.

If you cant get to France then you can still buy the fabrics here.

I have had some lovely emails from many of you telling me you are coming to one of my workshops in either the UK or The Netherlands :)  I have been busy preparing all the projects that I am going to teach, are you coming to a class with me?

Also on the horizon (May) is Spring Market which is where I get to showcase my new fabric collections, patterns and books to store owners from around the world...a bit of a nervous time for me but at the same time I love meeting up with people I only get to see twice a year....lots of long days, breakfast meetings and dinners out....

I am busy preparing some little stitcheries that will be a part of a kit for store owners who attend one of my presentations, the kits will have a little stitchery for them to do and a small selection of my latest fabrics to tempt them.....fingers crossed they get tempted so I can tell you all where my new fabrics will be available from.

Its raining again here this morning so poor Hugo is not going to get his walk....its meant to be the Sunshine Coast not the Rainshine coast!

My Weekend..

What a wonderful week I have had, its been filled with creativity and some lovely news. Eddie (my No3 son) and the lovely Emma (my graphic girl) who are currently on holiday announced thier engagement, yippee. Needless to say Emmas mum and I are planning a party! The ring is gorgeous and I absolutely love the flowers around Emma's wrist. Congratuation emails should be sent to emma@lynetteandersondesigns.com.au (lets see if we can fill her inbox!)

Saturday was voting day for our state elections and we were lucky enough to bump into the lovely Fiona Simpson.

I have been busy stitching and stuffing some little hearts to have as part of my display fpr Spring Market which is where I will be showing my new fabric collections to store owners. As you can see I have still to stitch the openings up, I just need a cup of tea and a good movie to watch while I do this part as its rather boring.

The final step for the hearts is to stitch one of these buttons in the centres, as you can see the name of the fabric collection is written on the buttons.....good advertising dont you think!

Lots of stores are telling me they have already ordered this fabric collection, so please check with your local quilt shop and maybe they will hold some for you or pre-book your fabrics today.

Peacock manor with felix small

As you can see I have chosen soft sludgy reds and dirty pinks and added some yoyo's with some sweet simple embroidery stitches. I also had fun trying to decide whether I like the Hugo or the Felix button best and as I dont want to upset either of them I am showing the little quilt to you with both of them on it so you can choose for yourself!

HUgo button

We have made a limited quantity of kits that are available exclusively to club members, the kits have the exact fabrics that I have used with the option of which button is required. Pour L'Amour du Fil...I'm going...

Pour lamour de fil 2012

We have been busy at the office packing, not only for my teaching days in the UK and  The Netherlands but also for my booth at 'Pour L'amour du Fil'. It somehow feels alot longer ago than a year since I was in Nantes and I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone there again this year. Are you coming?

For more info on the show http://www.pourlamourdufil.com/

We have been cutting and tying sweet fabric bundles ready for me to sell at the show..

Bundle stack secret garden

As you can see Hugo posed long enough for me to draw him and Emma has cleverly cut theses gorgeous wooden tags to tie onto the fabric bundles which we have been cutting and preparing ready for you to get started making 'A Dogs Life' quilt.

Dog tag

Here is the handsome Hugo wearing the quilt in question, maybe he thinks he is the canine caped crusader!

Hugo and a dogs life quilt

'A Dogs Life' is a 4 part BOM, if your looking for a store who is offering the program monthly check here or ask at your local quilt shop. Alternatively you can buy the patterns and fabric bundle direct from me :) here.

A dogs life small

As you can see our bundles contain the original background fabric which has a wonderful texture to it and is 100% cotton but the bundle also has most of the original prints that I used. You will need to add a few scraps from your stash which is rather a fun way of adding your unique stamp on the quilt.

Today, we drove up to Maleny to return some of the gorgeous props that we borrowed from Helen. There is something about vintage furniture that I find very very attractive, Helen is an expert at using the lovely Porters paints thats she sells and is more than happy to give advice about how to use it, maybe she should hold some classes.

Everywhere you look in the shop there are tempting displays.... you can see the interesting 'rusty' looking wall in the background that was created using Porters paints....wonder if Vince would like a rusty wall in the sitting room?? I think it would be great...

This fern (maiden hair??) reminded me of my grandmother who always had one in her sitting room and I almost came home with one of the wooden hat forms but Vince was wathcing so I had to behave!

This dressmakers dummy had a rather nice collection of bags that were made from re-purposed fabrics, doileys etc

I loved this display and it made me want to come home and do gardeny things, dont worry (mum) I havent got the gardening bug! I meant the sewing type of garden things!

I hope you have had a fun saturday?

Hugo's new collars...

I promised Hugo I would make him a new collar for Christmas but I never got to that job! Its March already and his sad faded collars which are at least a year old are looking really awful. I like to have at least two collars for Hugo at any one time so that when we get home from a swim I can put a dry collar on him, leaving the wet often collar outside to dry.

Finally yesterday we made some new collars for him and he is so excited he had to model them all!

Hugos collar

Trouble is Hugo cant decide which one he likes the most and its always good to chew one just a little!
