Wow, I'm in McCalls Quilting...

Welcome 2016

Please start by making yourself a cuppa and a biscuit, this post is a short but long summary of some of the things I got up to in 2015.....we farewell what had been a very busy 2015 and welcomed 2016,  Vince and I would like to wish you all a very happy new year.

A quick recap on 2015 has made me realise how many things we packed into the year!

In January I went to Japan to see the Tokyo Quilt Show, which is due to open for 2016 any day now. Its an amazing quilt show and if you ever get the opportunity to go - do, you will be amazed at the quilts and the wonderful displays.

I met up with the lovely Masako Wakayama and her daughter Emi. Masako designs fabrics for Lecien and has her own patterns line, she and Emi run a quilt shop called Crib Quilt.

Masako and Emi were my hostesses for two one day workshops that were held in Tokyo, Emi translated each day for me which was exhausting for her but wonderful for me and the students! Here are the students from the first day.

After the workshops we went by bullet train to Kyoto where we enjoyed two amazing days of sight seeing.

February I joined in the #apquiltalong and am about to join this years. Last year the theme was four patch, I did a very scrappy quilt using only fabrics from my collections and threw in some cream yarn dyes for texture. Hugo was my assistant on the project and hopefully he will help again this year! I have two more rows to stitch together before it can get quilted :(

IMG_9567

If you want to join in this years quilt along too then follow this link and read how to join in the fun here. I will be showing my fabric choices and which project I am going to be working on later this week.

In March I flew to Hobart and had a fabulous day with Helen Stubbings teaching a group of gorgeous ladies.

IMG_9726

I went to Nundle for my second year in a row.....I am sad not to be going this year and meeting all the lovely ladies there. Here are some of the ladies showing their finished projects from the 2014 'Girls Day In The Country'. A big 'thank you' to Kerry Swain from Cottage on the Hill for hosting this amazing yearly weekend event.

We farewelled Lyn who has run my office for several years, it was a sad day but we wished her luck in her new adventure.

In April for the first time 'Little Quilt Store' attended the Australian Quilt Convention in Melbourne. The booth looked great, Gail, Vince and I got to meet lots of customers and have booked the same location for this year where we hope to see you again.

IMG_0012

In May, Vince and I headed to the USA for Spring Market, which was in Pittsburg. We go to this event every year to launch the new fabric collection, patterns and buttons - oh, yes and to catch up with friends!

IMG_0090

We showed my fabric collection 'Time With Friends'

Time with friends4

and  'Winter Village'

and all the new patterns to go with these two collections.

I felt very honoured to receive an invitation to attend the '2015 creative circle of excellence' an exclusive event hosted by American Patchwork and Quilting - a retreat for designers which was held immediately after Spring Market.

Here I am with all the attendees, it was amazing to spend two days getting to know these designers better and playing with fabrics, threads, tools and more. The photos shows us are proudly displaying a few of the pillowcases that we made for the
one million pillowcase challenge to find out more about making pillowcases and for the pattern follow this link.

IMG_0297

We then flew up to NY state where I taught a couple of classes and did a trunk show at Material Rewards in Dansville, NY.

IMG_0394

We were so close the Niagara Falls how could we not go and see them....a truly amazing sight.

IMG_0583

We farewelled from the store Sae, who has been working with me for almost 4 years and who was starting her new adventure of being a mum... here she is with her mum x

IMG_5032

Our second guest for the year came in July, Emi from Crib Quilt who came to practise her English... we went whale watching from our local harbour..and saw lots of whales close to the boat.

IMG_0684

We went 4x4 driving on the beach.....

IMG_0713

I ended up having to have surgery on my finger (right hand) to repair the ligament that I had completely torn back in April as it was unable to heal itself.

IMG_0725

I was going to show you pictures of my finger without the bandages but decided not too as they are a bit gory! This little purple splint became my friend for the next few months.

IMG_0894
Thank you to you all for asking how my finger is - its slowly getting better and without some amazing ladies who have stitched tirelessly for me during the last few months I would not have been able to release any new patterns. The good thing is that my finger is now strong enough to hold a pencil steady and I can draw - stitching is still a bit challenging as my finger does not bend the way it used to.

Barb and Mary of Me and My Sister Designs, USA were here in Australia doing a teaching tour and on their day off we got together and after a quick tour of the shop we enjoyed lunch together. I usually only get to catch up with these ladies when I am in the US so it was a very special treat to have them visit me.

IMG_0750

August was a sad sort of a month, following the surgery on my finger I was told 'no travelling' and so I had to cancel my trip to France and the UK. However the amazing 'A' Team in the UK who work with me on my stand at the Festival of Quilts, Birmingham came to the rescue and ran my stand without me.

IMG_8374

the hashtag #hellolynette was created and we ran a competition for people who had their photos taken with my photo which was fun and made me feel a part of the show that was happening in the UK without me.....

IMG_0851

I spent 5 days in hospital with what turned out to be an MRSA infection....so it was very lucky that I hadn't travelled overseas!

I was so excited when my new book 'Country Style Quilting' was released in October, it has got some really gorgeous projects inside.

Thanks to Fujix another highlight for me was getting my appliqué thread put onto these gorgeous wooden spools (we sell the taupe colour on its own or you can get all three thread colours in a pack)

Time to head to the USA again for Fall Market in Houston, TX where we showed my new fabric collection 'My Hearts At Home' and all the lovely new patterns that use it. These fabrics will be in stores early 2016

Mhah

RJR the company I work with for my fabrics won the 'best multi booth' which was so exciting. The paper cranes on this wall were divine and I love our hashtag #quiltwithlove it seems so right for the industry we are in.

IMG_1446

We stayed after market and had a booth at festival which would've been great except the weather was awful - tornado warnings, flash flooding....all sorts of scary things! My friends Kay Harmon and Darlene from Sew Graceful Quilting, AR kindly came and helped us look after the booth at Festival. We are very grateful for all their help with so many things through the year. They are offering my new mystery button club quilt 'Anderson's Farm', here is a link to their website if you want more info.

IMG_1515

Between Houston and my next teaching assignment we had a few days off and New York has long been on our list so......off to the big apple we went.

IMG_1617

Workshops and a trunk show at Village Quilts, Canfield, OH was next on the agenda and what a lovely part of the world this store is in.

IMG_1624

I had so much fun with these ladies....this store is also offering my 2016 mystery button club 'Anderson's Farm'. Here is the link to sign up if your interested.

IMG_1630

In September we held our first 'Sew.Stich.Sea here on the Sunshine Coast with Helen Stubbings as my guest designer. The room was buzzing all day with 60 very excited ladies chatting and stitching, our second Sew.Stitch.Sea event is almost full, my guest for 2016 is Sarah Fielke. Here is a link to the website where you can read all about it and book a place.

IMG_1043

My fabric collection 'Highland' arrived in stores around the world, I wanted to add some stronger colours into my palette and these shades work so well with exciting fabrics...I am really enjoying working with them.

IMG_0897

November found us at the Australian Quilt Market, a two day event where stores can come and see what we have thats new, place their orders etc.

IMG_1703

We farewelled Emma at the end of November and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Emma and Eddies first baby, who is due any day...

IMG_1798

December came and went....we had a fantastic Christmas with family and friends, we laughed, we ate good food and we relaxed.

Somewhere in my year I also enjoyed designing many projects, walking the dog, playing with the cat, working in the garden, going to the supermarket and yes, I need to go clothes shopping....

Hugs to you all and I look forward to 2016....
